First lunar eclipse of 2024 to occur today

The Eclipse will not be observable in Pakistan as the Moon will be below the horizon during that period.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) -The initial lunar eclipse of 2024 is set to happen today (Monday). However, as per Dunya News, this eclipse will not be visible in Pakistan.

This eclipse will be observable in areas where the Moon is above the horizon during that time. It will be visible in regions such as America, most European countries, parts of South/East Europe, a significant portion of Asia, Australia, Africa, and the northern and eastern parts of Asia.

Due to the Moon being below the horizon in Pakistan, it won't be visible. This event will be a penumbral lunar eclipse lasting for four hours and 40 minutes.

What is a penumbral eclipse?

Penumbral eclipses occur when the Earth moves between the Moon and the Sun, causing the Sun's light to be partially blocked and creating a shadow on the Moon's surface. However, these eclipses are subtle and challenging to observe compared to other types.

In a penumbral eclipse, the Moon passes through the Earth's outer shadow known as the penumbra. This region is where the Earth appears to partially cover the Sun's disk but not completely. Consequently, the Moon's brightness diminishes since it receives less illumination from the Sun, yet its entire disk remains somewhat illuminated.
