Police officer Truman Fitzgerald informed local media that “we believe several shooters discharged multiple rounds at a group of individuals” in Birmingham's Five Points South area shortly after 11pm.
Officers discovered two adult males and an adult female, who was unresponsive, on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds. All three were declared dead at the scene, Fitzgerald reported.
A fourth victim succumbed to injuries at a nearby hospital. Fitzgerald noted that dozens were injured in the shooting, with at least four sustaining life-threatening wounds. The remaining individuals had various injuries.
No suspects have been apprehended in connection with the shooting, Fitzgerald stated, calling on the public for any information that could assist the investigation. The investigation involves several agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. According to the Gun Violence Archive, at least 12,416 people have been killed in 403 incidents of firearm violence this year in the US.
