It’s official! The Legend Of Maula Jatt is finally releasing in India this October

The film was originally scheduled for a December 2022 release in India but was delayed indefinitely.

The renowned Pakistani hit, The Legend of Maula Jatt (TLOMJ), featuring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, is now preparing for its official release in India on October 2, 2024.

This update was shared through the film's official Instagram page, where the creators confirmed, "The legacy of The Legend of Maula Jatt continues! Experience this cinematic masterpiece in Indian theatres from October 2, 2024. Book your tickets now!"

The post also hinted at additional updates, stating, "P.S. Cinema listings will be shared soon."

Initially, the film was set for a December 2022 release in India, but the launch was postponed indefinitely, leading to disappointment among fans.

At the time, a spokesperson for the Indian multiplex chain INOX told Dawn, "The distributor informed us that the film’s release in India has been delayed indefinitely. No new release date or reason for the delay has been provided."

Zee Studios, which had acquired the distribution rights, had plans to release the film in Delhi and Punjab but remained silent on the issue during the 2022 postponement. While the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) did not comment on the delay, sources suggested that theatre announcements would come once CBFC clearance was secured.

Before this, reports emerged that the Indian political party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) might have opposed the release. However, the Punjab Censor Board was expected to approve it.

The journey of TLOMJ from Pakistan to India has been long and filled with delays, but the film's success is undeniable. It premiered on October 13, 2022, and by August 2023, had made history by earning over Rs400 crore worldwide.

This milestone made it the first Pakistani film to achieve such a feat.

With its upcoming release in India this October, TLOMJ will be the first Pakistani film to be screened in Indian cinemas in more than a decade, following Shoaib Mansoor’s Bol. Given its success and star-studded cast, Indian fans are eagerly awaiting its release, especially given its reputation as a cinematic masterpiece.
