OGDCL signs MoU with Chinese firm for gas development

ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and Chuanqing Drilling Engineering Company Limited (CCDC), which is China's leading oil and gas producer and a subsidiary of the China National Petroleum Corporation, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Sunday to explore the shale and tight gas potential in Pakistan.

The signing ceremony took place in Xian, the provincial capital of Shaanxi province in China, with Federal Minister for Petroleum Dr. Musadik Malik present, as reported in a news release.

This MoU underscores the commitment of both nations to harness Pakistan’s shale and tight gas resources, aiming to meet the country's energy demands through local production.

The agreement was signed by Mumtaz Ali Soomro, Executive Director of Production at OGDCL, and Zhang Zhidong, Vice President of CNPC Chuanqing Drilling Engineering Company Ltd, representing their respective organizations.

Khalil Hashmi, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, was also in attendance at the event.

During his remarks, Dr. Musadik Malik expressed optimism about the continued strengthening of energy cooperation between the two countries, which he believes will yield benefits for both sides.

He emphasized the collaboration between OGDCL and CCDC in shale and tight gas exploration and expressed hope that this partnership will usher in a new era in tapping into Pakistan's untapped energy resources.
