قسم جو کھائیے تو طالع زلیخا کی
عزیز مصر کا بھی صاحب اک غلام لیا
if one swears, should be upon Zulekha's fate
her slave was superior to the head of state
خراب رہتے تھے مسجد کے آگے مے خانے
نگاہ مست نے ساقی کی انتقام لیا
ruined once,compared with mosques,had taverns been
then Saaqi's heady eyes avenged, reversed the scene
وہ کج روش نہ ملا راستے میں مجھ سے کبھی
نہ سیدھی طرح سے ان نے مرا سلام لیا
in the street, the crooked one, evaded me
nor to greetings did respond, straightforwardly
مزا دکھاویں گے بے رحمی کا تری صیاد
گر اضطراب اسیری نے زیر دام لیا
captor, your heartlessness I will make you regret
when zest for being ensnared traps me in your net
مرے سلیقے سے میری نبھی محبت میں
تمام عمر میں ناکامیوں سے کام لیا
in my own way I have dealt with love you see
all my life I made my failures work for me
اگرچہ گوشہ گزیں ہوں میں شاعروں میں میرؔ
پہ میرے شور نے روئے زمیں تمام لیا
in a corner, Miir, although 'mongst poets I be
yet my voice does eclipse the earth entirely
